Community-based & institution-led programs
At Manovikas Special School, our projects are rooted in inclusivity, dignity, and empowerment. We focus on creating long-term solutions for children and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through multiple community-based and institution-led programs.
- Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR)
Started in 1998–99, our CBR program reaches rural families, empowering them with tools, awareness, and local support systems. This project remains one of the most effective models in Kerala for addressing intellectual disabilities at the grassroots level. - Institution-Based Education & Therapy
Across our 5 active centres, over 200 children receive free education, special training, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral support. Children aged 3–18 are grouped based on learning level, not age, ensuring personalized attention. - Vocational Training for Adults
We run structured pre-vocational and vocational training programs designed to develop practical life and job skills. This initiative fosters independence and prepares students for potential employment or entrepreneurship. - National Trust Schemes
In partnership with the National Trust, we implement schemes like:- Niramaya (health insurance)
- Gharaunda (assisted living)
- Vikaas (daycare)
- Sahyogi (caregiver training)
- Mid-Day Meal Sponsorship
With generous contributions from the public, every child receives nutritious noon meals on working days—an initiative that directly supports health, attendance, and well-being. - Awareness & Outreach Events
We actively organize programs like World Cerebral Palsy Day, disability awareness campaigns, and inclusive community engagements to educate society and promote acceptance.

DISHA – Early Intervention and school readiness Programme
Overview
Manovikas Special School started the DISHA Project in 2016 under the National Trust, Government of India. This programme focuses on early identification, intervention, and school readiness for children with developmental disabilities.
As the only National Trust project in Kerala DISHA, it has been successfully continued for many years. Through this initiative, 28 children have been integrated into regular schools before the age of 10, promoting inclusive education and independence.
Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme
Through Manovikas, about 40,000 beneficiaries have been enrolled, with 5,000 renewals this year.
With a low premium (₹250–500) and no pre-insurance medical tests, the scheme covers OPD care, therapies, hospitalization, surgeries, and transportation, ensuring accessible healthcare for persons with disabilities.
